Mauritius is the island for sun worshippers. White sand beaches that seem to stretch for miles, friendly smiles wherever you go and a climate that, virtually year round, is almost unbeatable. In some hotels the rooms are so large they feel like suites. The watersports on offer are many and varied.

The hotel's 162 large, comfortable and brightly furnished Junior Suites are housed in 3 storey thatched villas, all ocean facing. There are also 12 larger suites, including the magnificent Maharajah Suite. The hotel and its tropical gardens extend along the beautiful white sandy beach of Belle Mare. Here you can be as energetic as you wish or simply take things easy and be pampered in the extensive health and massage centre. Paradise Cove has high standards of service and cuisine, offering privacy and luxury in elegant surroundings. Superbly situated in tropical gardens, the 67 room hotel is built around a private secluded cove, overlooking a lagoon. The hotel also boasts a delightful small speciality restaurant with some seating under thatch, built on stilts over the beach/water.

La Plantation - 4 star - North West Coast, 50 mins from airport

La Plantation offers 270 spacious rooms which face either the garden, mountains, pool or ocean. The main part of the hotel surrounds the very large swimming pool and water channels, all of which help to create a feeling of coolness and tranquillity.

Situated in a sheltered cove with direct access to a kilometre long white sandy beach, the Hotel Ambre has 298 spacious rooms. There is a particularly cosy indoor bar as well as the poolside bar and a night club. Of special interest is the Balneotherapy Centre which offers a variety of services including hydrotherapy, massage, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna.

Le Preskîl Beach Resort - 3 star + - South East Coast, 15 mins from airport

Le Preskîl is one of the closest hotels to the airport. Nearby is the colonial village of Mahebourg with its many shops and naval museum. The hotel has 200 rooms and offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is surrounded on three sides by crystal clear water and has a wide sandy beach. There are several nearby islands to visit. Ideal for families.

The name of the hotel is taken from the characters in a famous French love story. Pictures of the two mythical characters, Paul and Virginie, are to be found around the hotel. All 81 rooms are in three storey thatched villas and face the ocean. They are situated beside a small intimate beach. The hotel is conveniently situated near the village of Grand Gaube.

Emeraude - 2 star - East Coast, 50 mins from airport

Located across a quiet road from a beautiful white sand beach, Emeraude is a more intimate hotel, with just 60 rooms and is a charming tropical escape for couples and families alike. It is set amidst a lovely tropical garden. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Excellent value for those on a budget.

PRE-BOOKABLE EXCURSIONS

There are many excursions available on Mauritius, most of which may be booked in advance. Excursions may only operate on one day per week. If there is a tour which you particularly want to book, you are advised to confirm the day of operation when booking your holiday. The following are a selection of the more popular tours. Tour prices are subject to rate fluctuation during the year but, generally speaking the months of January-mid July and September are cheaper. Prices are subject to availability.

International flights are on Air Mauritius or Air France. Aircraft type will be advised with travel documents. Flying time with Air Mauritius to Mauritius is ca. 12 hours. Flying time with Air France (via Paris) is ca. 13 hours. The flight between Mauritius and Réunion is ca. 45 minutes. Flights to Paris are also available from Manchester, Birmingham and some other UK airports at no extra cost (taxes vary however).

Economy class scheduled flights on Air Mauritius or Air France as specified, airport taxes, passenger service charges, 23kgs baggage allowance on Air Mauritius (20kgs between Mauritius and Réunion and on Air France), accommodation sharing a twin room in hotels.
