Gosier Beach, Guadeloupe

Rimmed with coconut palms and golden beaches and surrounded by crystal blue sea, the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe has been nicknamed the "Emerald Island" for its incredible flora of a thousand tropical scents or "Butterfly Island" for its unusual shape. To the ancient Carib Indians, it was simply "Island of the Beautiful Waters".
To the East lies Grande Terre, the home of sugar cane, windmills and many white beaches with clear blue waters protected by coral reefs. Grande Terre is also home to Pointe-à-Pitre, the island’s capital and Gosier, the main tourist area.
To the West lies Basse Terre, a total contrast, a region of rain forest, tropical flora and a still smouldering volcano - more than 180 miles of "paths" wind among waterfalls, hot springs, craters and banana fields. The coast is littered with idyllic towns and fishing villages, hidden in coves, often beside a beautiful beach. 
Just a short distance offshore lie the idyllic islands of Marie Galante and Les Saintes - perfect for a get away from it all experience

This is unquestionably the best hotel in the tourist district of Gosier, where an excellent beach is lined by a string of hotels. The main restaurant is highly recommended. 180 rooms all facing the sea.

15 self-catering villas, built in the style of a small village, next to the sea. Villas accommodate between 4 and 10 guests, each having 2, 3, 4 or 5 bedrooms. Each villa has its own private pool with a large teak terrace, which is equipped with a hammock, sun loungers and garden furniture. Fully equipped kitchens with dishwasher, oven, fridge, washing machine and coffee machine. Living rooms incorporate a ceiling fan, hi-fi, video recorder, large screen TV, safe and telephone. Villas are partially air conditioned. There is a daily maid service and breakfast can be brought to the villa if required (at extra cost). Additionally, it is also possible to hire a cook.
This recently built complex is quite luxurious and of a very high standard. Ideal accommodation for a group or family who prefer the independence of self-catering.

This lovely hotel is family-owned and managed. Just 250 metres from Grande Anse, one of the best beaches on the island, but well away from the main tourist areas, Habitation Grande Anse is beautifully situated. The 50 studios and apartments are spread around a hillside surrounded by lush vegetation.

Situated 5kms inland on the road to the volcano, Hotel Saint-Georges has just 40 rooms although it does sometimes feel busier as it tends to be used as a conference centre for local businesses.

The Salako Beach Resort includes the Clipper and Salako hotels and the Prao apartments. The resort is situated along the main beach and is suitable for families. The Prao consists of 59 spacious apartments, each equipped with a kitchenette - ideal for self catering. The Clipper hotel, with its 89 rooms, has the interesting feature of resembling a ship from certain angles. The Salako has 120 rooms.

La Sucrerie du Comté - Sainte-Rose, Northern Basse Terre

Ideally situated for exploring Basse Terre, La Sucrerie has a unique character and lovely atmosphere. It is on the site of a former sugar refinery and much of the ruins may still be seen within the grounds. The 52 rooms are simply furnished and built in a créole style, each being one half of a small villa. A wild and natural sandy beach is 800 metres away.

A hotel of 44 rooms right in the heart of the city just a short walk from La Darse and within easy reach of the ferry terminal for travel to the offshore islands.

45 minutes by boat or 15 minutes by air from Guadeloupe lies the magical island of Marie Galante, still barely touched by tourism. It is said that Marie Galante represents Guadeloupe as she was some 30 years ago. Whilst it can be visited as a day trip from Guadeloupe, Marie Galante is really at its best once the day trippers have left. This is the place for a get away from it all experience and arguably it has the most beautiful beach in all of Guadeloupe. We offer the two best hotels on Marie Galante and also a more economical but excellent value hideaway.

Les Saintes

A 30-40 minute ferry ride from Guadeloupe lie the beautiful islands of Les Saintes. With some justification Terre-de-Haut claims to have one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. The pastel coloured houses surrounding the bay are a lovely sight, especially when viewed from on high. Whilst Terre-de-Haut may be visited as a day trip from Guadeloupe, the islands are worthy of a much longer stay. We offer our two favourite hotels here.

Hotel Bois Joli – 3 star, Terre-de-Haut, Les Saintes

Idyllically situated alongside a lovely beach in a quiet part of the island, 3kms from the town, this hotel has a stunning view out to sea. The 26 rooms and bungalows, some with kitchenette, are nicely furnished. There is a shuttle service to the town.

Auberge Les Petits Saints – Terre-de-Haut, Les Saintes

This colourful, intimate hotel is a short walk from the centre of town and has a beautiful view of the bay. The restaurant has a good reputation. The 9 rooms are each furnished beautifully and individually. About 10 minutes walk to the beach.

Pre-Bookable Excursions

There are many excursions available on Guadeloupe, most of which may be booked in advance. Excursions may only operate on one day per week. If there is a tour which you particularly want to book, you are advised to confirm the day of operation when booking your holiday. The following are a selection of the more popular tours.
